Printing the Test Proofs

Awhile ago, we hand printed a small edition of test proofs to check, color, registration and the separations of James Callahan’s first print The Gryphon and the Mock Turtle. We’re very excited by the end result and thought we’d share some of the process.

IMAG0352

Jim’s original pen and ink drawing of the Jabberwock. Jim was telling us, he imagines a swamp that was destroyed by an expanding empire and the Jabberwock is a collective ghost of all the creatures who died in the destruction of that swamp. Below is a detail showing all those fish and creature-spirits being released.
